15 February 2012: Planning for the Via Alpina hike is going well with train booking now made as well as the first few nights accommodation near Monaco. Snow equipment is on order to handle the wintry conditions expected in the first few weeks and most topographical maps have been acquired and the route marked.
30 July 2011: Flight now booked for next May to London from where I will catch a train to Monaco and begin my hike from there to Trieste along the Via Alpina through the European Alps. I expect the journey of 2,000km to take about 11 weeks.
12 April 2011: Finished my hike along the Australian Alpine Walking Track at Namadgi National Park Visitors Centre. Already contemplating what's next. Probably a couple of months hiking across the European Alps in June and July 2012.
15 March 2011: Started hiking the Australian Alpine Walking Track from Walhalla, Victoria.
4 July 2010: Finished the hike and had a great time. What's next?
16 May 2010: I'm now two weeks into the hike and you can follow my progress through the diary option at the left of this page.
30 April 2010: Enjoying some fine spring weather with friends in London, doing the last few preparation chores. Walking 10km each morning and the bad knee seems to be holding up. A train is booked to Penzance on Monday, 3 May, from where I will get a bus (1 hour) to Lands End and walk the first few kilometres on Monday evening.
3 April 2010: Flights are booked to leave Australia for London on 26 April 2010 and begin hiking from Land's End on Tuesday, 4 May 2010.
23 March 2010: My problem right knee injury seems to be improving at the rate necessary for me to start on the Lands End to John O'Groats hike in late April.
